DGA160 Storytelling Module- The Lost Pirate Treasure Animatic

Good things and Improvements:

This clip is my animatic of for the DGA160 Storytelling Module. I feel the movement amongst the audio was overall successful. I asked my four friends to do the voices for the characters: Pirate Narrative/Captain, Extra Pirates and crew (Chasing parrott and monkey) furthermore, one of my course mates actually did the audio for the parrot. I believe the character voices were very fitting overall. I received help with using the audio recorder form the same friend who did the voice of the monkey.

Overall, it was an interesting experiencing of collaborating with other course mates in directing/producing. I also recorded the sea audio at Falmouth beech. Some extra dialogue was added towards the end when the ship was about to go under as it was improvising dialogue by the same coursemate who was the voice actor for the Pirate Captain, which I thought was too comedic not to include.
Improvements for some may to be erase this improv as the scene may be serious for the target audience. Furthermore, the audio could have been improved similarly to the storyboard with including more of the other pirate's voices.

DGA110-Digital Animation Practice One-Walk Cycle (Attempt 2)

Good things and Improvements: For this exercise, I attempted to create the second walk cycle (as my last one I had described as disproportional in terms the movement of the limbs. The arms and legs in this I feel are greater of keeping their shape. I feel the clarity of the motion is greater. To improve I feel adding the shadows and tone or colour to the figure whould bring greater character, furthermore the face is non expressive so adding facial expressions could help the aesthetic and allow the expressiveness bring the animation more to life.

DGA160-Storytelling for Animation-"The Lost Treasure" Animatic Storyboard

Good things and Improvements: For this task I created a watercolor and ink-storyboard for my animatic for the DGA160 each panel going from the top left to top right, to middle left to middle right display what is happening amongst the animatic. The storyboard was a depiction of Andy Guest and Yuki Hau's "The Lost Pirate Treasure Narrative". The file below the colored storyboard is the format I used for my submission. I decided to edit the storyboard to black and white as I felt it suited the mood of the narrative more accurately. I feel overall, this was a fairly strong piece in terms of texture and aesthetic. I felt the line work depicted the key parts of the scene fairly well. I was happy the watercolour and texture contributed to the scene of the Pirate narrative. To improve I would possibly refine some of the lines in which the pirate captain is confused about what is going on outside (Seen on page 6) Furthermore, in the script I could have included a greater part of the monkey and other pirates dancing/chasing the monkey. Also the composition and proportions of the deck could be depicted more accurately. But overall, I am happy with the colour, texture and expressions of the pirates.

DGA110-Digital Animation Practice One-Character Walk Animation

Good things and Improvements:
This animation is a stopmotion character walking on to the stage (camera) and then breaking into dance in the style of Michael Jackson's thriller. I feel the first few steps have strengths in realistic motion, however, I feel improvements could be made by the length of the dance to clarify the actual motion, I feel to some viewers the dance may be to short, to understand what the character is actually doing. Furthermore the lighting has a few faults in the fact the lights is on then off then on. I believe I could improve by simply observing the lights at a greater focus next time.

DGA110-Digital Animation Practice One-Anxious Character Stop Motion Throw (First attempt)

Good things and Improvements: For this animation exercise we had to animate a stopmotion puppet throwing a ball. I felt the stance was very wobbling and overall the mood was that the character was scared of being judged for his throwing ability. To improve I would observe a more fluent and confident thrower. I feel this would allow me to capture a greater motion and representation of the movement of the stopmotion throw. Good things however, I feel the movement does include an interesting capture movement.

DGA160-Storytelling/Drawing for Animation: Dogsperados Storyboard

DGA160 Storytelling Group Project- Dogsporados/Storyboard/Character Design

For this task I worked with a group on my course to come up with Narrative Concept. We came up with Dogsperados, which is a similar retelling of Moulin Rouge. Where a female poodle named Shirley Monbone is trapped within the Burlesque industry amongst a Wild West narrative. For our task our groups were asked to create characters and storyboards.
Characters: My friend came up with the name of the protagonist Flint Eastwood (Seen at the bottom right of the four tonal drawings). Shirley MonBone is seen on the left of Eastwood. Above Shirley is George Fleebags an extra spare character who is a shoe shine boy, To the right of George, Balto another extra aggressive character I created.

What is happening in the storyboard: For the traditional 2D storyboard I created, Flint Eastwoof enters the Saloon and asks for a drink and the barpug gets a drink, other dog-hybrid-cow-boys are smoking/playing darts. The scene then cuts to the corridor where Fruti-cake the Burlesque owner is yelling at Shirley for trying to leave the buisness. Shirley then leaves to go to the bar and then is met with a drunken angry Flint Eastwoof. My group had create storyboard introducing each individual characters, I thought I'd end with with all the characters being brought together (the main characters being Flint Eastwoof, Shirley Mon-bone, FruitCake and the pug bars man)

Good things and Improvements: Overall, I am happy with the concepts of the characters, I feel it is an interesting Wild West anthropomorphic retelling of Moulin Rouge. Furthermore, I am overall happy with the drawings I created for the concept, I suppose for the storyboard I could add colour and tone for it to be of greater interest. For the character designs I would add a background/intentions/character traits for there to be greater clarity, also the drawings for characters were stuck in my sketchbook therefore causing it to be difficult to scan. Next Time I feel it would more aesthetically pleasing if I scanned the images for a greater refinement of lines and texture.

DGA110-Digital Animation Practice One-Walk Cycle (Attempt one)

Good Things/ Improvements:
For this animation exercise I wanted to practice the motion of walking without reference to see the result. Overall, I feel the end result is poor as the figure appears to be dragging their feat on the ground. Furthermore, the shape of limbs do not maintain their proportions. However, I feel a strength lies in its emotion. I wanted to portray an, angry rushed walk which I feel I did capture if only slightly ignoring the limb proportions. To improve this I would simply practice it again and find a reference sources to observe limbs closely

DGA110-Digital Animation Practice One-Splash 3 point perspective (First Attempt)

Good Things/ Improvements:

For this task we had to animate a 2D splash of where the ball lands into the water and the splash is displayed. Overall, I feel the motion portrays the general representation of the ball hitting the water. Furthermore, I am rather fond of the behind the scenes appearances of the 3 point perspective. But to improve I would add the reflections, texture and colour to the animation for it to appear with greater interest or realism. However, I feel the animation portrays the mechanical components of 3 point-perspective, motion and line work that goes into it.

DGA160-Storytelling for Animation-Section for Deep Screen Play For Storyboard (Display version- without tone and script)

Good Things/ Improvements: This task was create a storyboard for the script Derek Hayes had assigned for us entitled "Section for Deep Screen Play for storyboard". The storyboard above was one I created simply for aesthetic. The one below is the one I submitted for assessment alongside the script to clarify what is happening.
Overall, I am happy with the aesthetic, characters facial expression and linework. I feel to imrpove I would add missing key parts of the script such as when Inspector Small puts down his hat, also there are some mismatching moments such as when Caroline is meant to be holding the folder and give it to Inspector Small. However, I feel the storyboard portrays the gist of the scene and overall I am happy with it.
